Is Eric Whitacre a choral superstar?

Seems like it, considering that a signed poster from his Orchestra Hall concert last month is being auctioned on eBay.

But let’s be blunt: Eric not in the same category as a Mick, Britney or Miley, if the size of the bids is an indication. As of this writing on Tuesday afternoon, the highest bid was $152.50. Bidding closes late Wednesday morning.

The poster -- 77.5 inches by 40 inches -- is being sold as a benefit for VocalEssence, the choral group that performed in the March 22 sold-out performance. Choral music enthusiasts from 26 states -- plus a few from Japan, Mexico and Canada -- attended the concert. Others paid $20 each to attend the dress rehearsal.

Included with the poster are photographs of Whitacre signing it, just to guarantee authenticity. The money raised from the auction goes to support VocalEssence education programs.
