Lustrous TU Dance to perform 'Reflections on Central Park' at the Ritz

TU Dance, the Twin Cities’ most gracious, gorgeous dance company, just keeps pulling out the stops. This weekend’s performance at the intimate Ritz Theater, called “Reflections on Central Park: A Dance Cabaret at the Ritz Theater,” not only includes new solos, duets and trios by co-founder Uri Sands and performed by the lustrous company. The show is poignant for other reasons.

The company of nine dancers performs to live jazz by the Jeremy Walker Quartet. Jazz pianist Jeremy Walker and his wife Marsha Walker, a marketing goddess currently working with the Minnesota Opera, just announced on Facebook they’re moving to New York. While this performance certainly won’t be the quartet’s last in the Twin Cities, now is the time to experience their music in concert with luscious, soulful dancing.

Thomasina Petrus (Thursday-Friday) and T. Mychael Rambo (Saturday-Sunday) of Penumbra Theater host the show, in which the performers explore the idea of city and urban living. Ironic, yes, that the show’s theme is memories of Central Park, as the Walkers prepare for their move. But what a send-off ... who could ask for more?

“Reflections on Central Park: A Dance Cabaret at the Ritz Theater,” TU Dance, 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, 2 p.m. Sunday. Ritz Theater, Minneapolis. Tickets $22-$25. 612-436-1129.
