The Children’s Theatre Company opens its 45th season this week with the return of a favorite that has been entertaining audiences since 1979. “The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins” returns Sept. 17 (previews start Tuesday) and runs through Oct. 30.

The tale, based on the Dr. Seuss book, takes the audience to the kingdom of Didd, where it is required for all to doff their caps for the king. Yet as hard as he tries, young Cubbins finds a new hat magically appearing on his head just as the last one has been removed.

The production stars CTC’s Braxton Baker as Cubbins and local favorite Bradley Greenwald as King Derwin. Also in the cast of 21 are Autumn Ness, Gerald Drake and Max Wojanowicz. The production will use the original music written in 1979 by Hiram Titus, and the score will be performed by a seven-piece live orchestra. This will be the sixth production of the show at CTC.

The Children’s Theatre Company is at 2400 Third Ave. S., Minneapolis. Tickets are $16 to $40. For information and tickets, call  (612) 874-0400 or go online.
