Boiled in Lead -- the hybrid Irish-folk-punk-everything-else band -- has stormed clubs and concerts for decades, yet it’s still staying fresh. (The band’s latest CD, "Silver," is one of my favorites from 2008.) For many of the band’s quarter-century history, Todd Menton has been the man in front, adding his signature voice and guitar-playing to the band’s eclectic mix.

The band's success doesn’t mean Menton doesn’t have musical aspirations outside the group. His latest solo disc (and third for New Folk Records), "The Dolman Field," features a mix of traditional Irish pieces and originals that showcase his far-flung musical influences. And like any musician with a new project finished, Menton wants to party. This Thursday evening at the Cedar Cultural Center promises a wild evening to warm music fans on what promises to be a cold night.

Joining Menton on stage will be Savage Aural Hotbead, the longstanding local percussion combo; folk act Lehto and White, and storyteller Kevin Kling on the didgeridoo. I said Menton’s music was eclectic. Which really is a bargain at $10 per head.
