Colleen Sheehy in Fargo: Put on your boots

By Jim Walsh | Published Wed, Mar 25 2009 8:33 am

Colleen Sheehy, the former Weisman Art Museum director of education/curator and current Plains Art Museum director/C.E.O, weighs in from her new post:

“I am in Fargo, where the river is flowing over the banks. I did my first stint at sandbagging tonight. It’s good for a community to have to pull together in a natural disaster, or potentially a natural disaster. Standing in the mud with the rain pouring down, people were joking, the college kids were out in force (god bless their energy and muscles and good cheer), and everyone was in a pretty good mood in the face of the elements threatening our town. No one cares who’ s a Republican, Democrat, Independent, Green, or Purple. If only the whole country would feel this way with the economy right now. Pulling together in the rain, trying to save our town. What gives? Miss you and the Twin Towns, especially the music!”

And what is the diehard Bruce Springsteen lover drawing on for inspiration?

“I’m sore this morning, but good. Last night, I wore my Springsteen hooded sweatshirt that is emblazoned with SPRINGSTEEN THE RISING, which Sandy Choron, his art director, gave me back when the Springsteen show was at Weisman. Come on up for the rising ... waters? Or spirits?”
