Here’s a philanthropic way for artists of all ages to build up their portfolios: The Emergency Foodshelf Network is seeking entries for the third-annual Artwork for Tummies project.

The New Hope-based network hopes to raise $10,000 this year by selling greeting cards designed by artists for $2 apiece. Last year, the organization raised $2,200 to help feed needy children during the summer months.

"With the scary economy and the huge increase in visits to our network food shelves, we’re anticipating that the coming months are going to be very difficult for families in need," said Marilee Jennisson, donor relations coordinator for the network. "We expect that many more children will be skipping meals this summer when they do not have access to free school breakfasts and lunches."

This year’s fundraising goal of $10,000 could provide 40,000 healthful meals, she said.

Deadline for artists’ entries is April 24. Local artists of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to enter. Several works of art will be selected and printed (along with brief artist bios) on the greeting cards. Check out (and/or buy) some of the existing cards here.
