The Titanic hit an iceberg in the North Atlantic on April 14, 1912, so it's good marketing for the Science of Museum of Minnesota to put tickets on sale tomorrow -- April 14 -- for its Titanic exhibit opening in June.
And today the museum is also taking some of the exhibit artifacts -- items like dishware, tools, currency and personal items from the Titanic and its rescue ship RMS Carpathia -- to Hale Community School in Minneapolis.
The exhibit, which will run June 12, 2009, to Jan. 3, 2010, will feature more than 250 artifacts that have been recovered from Titanic’s wreck site, detailed room re-creations, and a gallery devoted to Minnesota’s connections to the historic shipwreck. In addition, the exhibition’s run in Minnesota will feature the worldwide debut of artifacts from Carpathia, the ship that traveled 58 miles through the icy North Atlantic to respond to Titanic’s distress call.
You'll note on the ticket page that adult admission for the Titanic exhibit, which also gets you into the rest of the museum and the Omnitheater film, is $29; that same admission for museum members is $7 in June and $10 for the rest of the run, July-January.
Clearly, they're hoping you'll sign up for annual membership, $95 Family/Household (two adults and children or grandchildren under 18) or $69 if shared by two people.
And the $3 Titanic discount for members in June is to encourage members to attend at the beginning of the run, when it's typically less crowded.
