Another book publisher takes a hit, this time the local Minnesota Historical Society Press (MHSP).
With an expected 45 percent cut in funding from the state, MHSP will decrease its annual book production by 30 percent and eliminate four positions from its 11-person staff, reports Publisher's Weekly.
One of the books likely to be delayed was written by former Star Tribune reporter Peg Meier. She recently put the final touches on a book about children in Minnesota history, something along the lines of her top-selling "Bring Warm Clothes." Publication of the new book now may come next year.
MHSP released 30 titles last year, of which five were Minnesota Book Award nominees. The press grossed $1.4 million in sales in fiscal year 2008.
