Last June, when Chris Osgood left his post of many years as director of artist services for Springboard for the Arts to take a senior position at McNally Smith College of Music, Springboard threw a big bash in his honor, the Osgood Dogood celebration. Last summer's party, complete with a fabulous juried art show and live performances by area musicians, was such a hit that the organization has decided to make it an annual event.

The Second Annual Osgood Dogood, this Friday night at the McNally Smith College of Music in downtown St. Paul, will again showcase a variety of visual artists' work in a curated exhibition and art sale — featured artists include Deborah Foutch, Betsy Dollar, Chris Faust, Karin Jacobson, Teresa Cox and Kristine O'Brien.

Proceeds from sales at the visual-arts exhibition will be split between Springboard for the Arts and the participating artists.

And like last year, the party will be enlivened by terrific live performances as well. Given Chris Osgood's deep roots in Minnesota's music scene — those of us who came of age in the '70s and '80s likely remember him best as founder of the influential punk band The Suicide Commandos — it's no surprise that the line-up of talent on stage is impressive.

In addition to a set from singer/songwriter Jeremy Messersmith, the night will also feature Osgood himself on stage with the Warblers and special guests, the Liquorish Whips. Other performances include spoken word by E.G. Bailey, Bharatanatayam dancers from Ragamala, and hip hop by Tou SaiKo Lee; Joe Spencer, policy associate for arts and culture for St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman, will serve as the evening's emcee.
