If you're in the market for beautiful, wallet-friendly artwork, but want something a bit different from the usual fare at area art festivals, there's a show opening this weekend you should check out.

In its annual summer co-op exhibition and art sale, Highpoint Center for Printmaking will feature original relief prints, lithographs, screenprints and intaglio prints made by 23 local artists, all of whom are members of its community printshop cooperative.

The work is as varied as the co-op membership itself, with prints in a broad spectrum of styles and techniques, with pieces by emerging artists and amateurs alongside those of midcareer artists whose work graces the walls of museums and private collections around the country. The center's annual summer co-op show is not only a fabulous shopping opportunity (Highpoint staffer Joanne Price says a significant number of pieces in the show are priced at less than $200); this exhibition is also a terrific introduction to the rich diversity of printmaking work being made by Minnesota artists.

There are some real gems in the mix this year: For my part, I have my eye on Mike Elko's wry satirical designs, intricate abstracts by Anna Tsantir, and Brian Hartley Sago's gorgeous intaglio prints. Browse through the list of participating artists, and I'm sure you'll find your own favorites.

"Hot Off the Press" will open with a free, public reception at Highpoint Center for Printmaking in Minneapolis on Friday, July 31, at 6:30 p.m., and will be on view through Sept. 19.
