Get your 'stick-stuck edibles' ready and come on down to the Northern Clay Center

Well, this is an unexpected treat: In tribute to the tastebud-boggling array of goodies on sticks at the Minnesota State Fair, the Northern Clay Center (NCC) is hosting a quirky, fair-themed potluck this Thursday evening to kick off its new exhibition.

"Pots On a Stick" will feature work by three NCC "Artists of the Month" -- Ruth Martin, Jeffrey Nichols and Johanna Severson,  -- in a show that will be on display at the center all month. At Thursday's opening, visitors to the Clay Center are also invited to come armed with hearty appetites and some of their most intriguing, inspired versions of fairworthy "stick-stuck edibles," as the artists are calling them, to share.

Everyone can then sample a bit of novelty food, peruse the pots; in the end, the crowd will vote someone the NCC stuff-on-a-skewer champion. I just wish all gallery openings promised such relaxed, convivial parties.

Northern Clay Center's August "Artists of the Month" exhibition will open with "Pots on a Stick" (a free, public opening reception at the Clay Center) on Thursday, Aug. 6, from 5 to 7 pm. The artists' work will be on view through Aug. 30.
