The Guthrie Theater has extended the run of "Ella" -- again.

Earlier this week, the theater announced that the dramatic concert tribute to Ella Fitzgerald, which opened in July, had been extended to Sept. 20, or two weeks past its originally scheduled closing date. The stretch added an additional 12 performances -- added on, according to the Guthrie, because of strong ticket sales.

A day later, the theater announced it was adding another five performances, though the closing date remains Sept. 20. The extension will now include Tuesday through Sunday performances, and the performers will also be turning in double-duty on Wednesdays and Saturdays, doing matinees and evening shows. "Ella," which showcases 24 classic songs and hangs on a book by local playwright Jeff Hatcher, had its first incarnation back in 2005, with Tina Fabrique in the title role. Since then, the New York-based actress/singer has been with the show as it has traveled around the country. Judging by the reception here, there seems to be no end in sight.
