ARENA Dances concert features new solo by founder/choreographer Mathew Janczewski

By Camille LeFevre | Published Thu, Nov 12 2009 9:00 am

Several years ago, Mathew Janczewski largely retired from dancing. What a letdown. In the 1990s, he was one of the most compelling Twin Cities performers to grace the concert stage, able to portray the most resonant of emotions through a choreography he’d devised that made the most of his body’s muscular, intelligent articulation.

Well, Janczewski’s decided to try a comeback. “Short Fall,” this weekend’s concert performed by his ARENA Dances, includes a rare solo performance by Janczewski. It’s a bold move for one of our most beloved dancers, which we await with anticipation.

Also on the program is another premiere for the whole company, as well as two repertory works. For excerpts from Arena’s last show at The Lab, go here.

    "Short Fall." 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday; 5 p.m. Saturday, pay-as-able; 7 p.m. Sunday. The Lab Theater, 700 N. First Street, Minneapolis. Tickets $15-$20. 612-333-7977.
