Family-favorite Pilobolus Dance Theatre returns to Northrop

The dance troupe formed more than 40 years and named for a feisty fungus, Pilobolus Dance Theatre, returns to Northrop for more family fun this weekend.
The shape-shifting troupe is renowned for its super-flexible performers in brightly colored leotards, who become intertwined in seemingly impossible and ever-evolving configurations like an moebius strip come to life. For a preview, go here.
The Friday night performance ranges from the 2008 “Lanterna Magica,” which investigates a parallel reality of supernatural activity, to the 1974 “Pseudopodia,” a solo for a tumbling dancer set to an all-percussion score. These works are also on the Saturday family-friendly program, along with the new “Dog • ID,” a shadow piece created in collaboration with Steven Banks, lead writer for “SpongeBob SquarePants” and the 1974 classic “Walklydon,” in which the performers bump, jump and romp in a classic of physical humor.
