    A brilliant bit of timing?

    In a brilliant (and entirely accidental) bit of timing, MinnPost’s new Book Club Club launched just days ahead of this year's National Reading Group Month. 

    Started by the Women’s National Book Association (WNBA) in October 2007 -- to mark the association's 90th anniversary -- National Reading Group Month aims to “celebrate the joy of shared reading” and “encourage individuals to join an existing reading group or start a new one.” 

    WNBA’s mission is to promote literacy, a love of reading, and women's roles in the community of the book.

    At special events in WNBA chapter cities (Boston, Dallas, Detroit, Los Angeles, Nashville, New York, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, D.C.), best-selling authors and book club "faves" get together with readers to swap reading suggestions.  

    And why, you might ask, is a great book town like the Twin Cities NOT on this list? 

    We didn't know either, so we asked Susan Walker of Midwest Booksellers Association.

    “I don't know why there's not a chapter of WNBA in the Twin Cities. However, I'm told that Chicago, the Twin Cities, and Austin, TX, are at the top of the list for possible new chapters -- an effort that will probably start up in 2010.”
