MinnPost’s Book Club Club is delighted to welcome the Department of English at the University of Minnesota as the third content sponsor of this section of the site.
The department is in good company: Our first two content sponsors are The Loft Literary Center and The Friends of the St. Paul Public Library.
You’ll find frequently updated messages from all three groups on the left side of the BCC section front -- with info about classes, speakers and events of interest to readers and writers.
While the Loft and the Friends are well-known in Minnesota literary circles, the U’s English Department may be more of a hidden treasure to people outside the academic community.
In recent years, through its endowed speaker series, the department has brought prize-winning literary authors to campus to give readings and talks that are always free and open to the public.
A few examples of authors who’ve already spoken here: Jamaica Kincaid, Michael Chabon, E.L. Doctorow, Suzan-Lori Parks, Junot Diaz, Maxine Hong Kingston.
Don’t feel bad about those you’ve missed. There are lots more to come.
And we hear that book club members are especially welcome.
