Lorna Landvik will talk about "Book Clubs and Me" at the Book Club Blast. More than 130 people have already registered. Event details here.
MinnPost: Tell us about your latest book release.
Lorna Landvik: My latest published book is “’Tis the Season” (Ballantine Books), a holiday book released in December 2008.
It’s about a young celebrity “bad girl” named Caroline Caro Dixon, who tries to achieve sobriety and change her negative public image.
I am currently working on a new novel.
MP: Which writers or works have been the strongest influences on your own writing?
LL: Maude Hart Lovelace and her “Betsy-Tacy” series influenced me very much when I was a girl; I identified with Betsy, who wanted to be a writer, as well as the friends’ girl-power.
I also loved “Caddie Woodlawn” by Carol Ryrie Brink -- I found her a little more wild than Laura Ingalls Wilder.
Later favorites/influences include Mark Twain, Charles Dickens, Flannery O’Connor,
Tom Robbins, Anne Tyler...and any good writer I’m reading at any given moment.
MP: What do you love most about living in Minnesota?
LL: I love our beautiful park system and love that I can live in a big city and yet have two lakes, a waterfall, and a river all within easy walking distance.
I love the seasons and their colors -- the greens of spring and summer, the golds and reds of autumn and the whiteness of winter (before everything turns to slush).
I’m also a big fan of our state’s progressive history and all the good lookin’ Scandinavians!
