    E-books now available at Hennepin County Libraries

    The public library has joined the Digital Age.

    Almost 700 downloadable e-books are now available for checkout from the Hennepin County Library, including adult, teen and children's bestsellers, new releases and classics. 

    The current electronic collection boasts nine of the top 10 titles on the New York Times hardcover fiction bestseller list, Stephenie Meyer's "Twilight" series, children's books by Kate DiCamillo and Mary Pope Osborne, and Junie B. Jones titles. 

    Using a library card barcode number, e-books can be downloaded to Sony Readers, Barnes & Noble Nooks, and other PDAs. Amazon Kindles and Apple iPads cannot download e-books protected with Adobe DRM (Digital Rights Management).

    Library cardholders can download up to 15 items at a time from the Overdrive digital catalog, including e-books, audio books, videos, and music items.

    E-books will never incur overdue fines; once the loan period has expired, the content simply becomes unavailable for viewing.  

    Hennepin County Library is the first public library in the Twin Cities metro area to lend e-books.
