So today's Pioneer Press features an interesting bit of campaign-trail fodder: Norm Coleman canceling an afternoon's campaign appearances Wednesday after a Texas lawsuit accused donor Nasser Kazeminy of improperly giving Laurie Coleman money "to help the Colemans’ personal finances."
The suit was withdrawn the same day, and there is other bizarreness: Laurie Coleman works for Kazeminy, making improper payments that much harder to prove. (What's salary and what's not?)
Well, it turns out the Strib — which published nothing on the matter this morning — was also in hot pursuit.
In the video below, you can watch investigative bulldog Paul McEnroe pursue the senator to his waiting SUV and try fruitlessly to get an answer through a rolled-up window.
While the PiPress story didn't state the amount involved in the suit, McEnroe repeatedly mentions $75,000.
Interestingly, the video was shot by the DFL Party tracker assigned to follow Coleman. (The video contains the federally mandated disclaimer.) If the suit turns out to b.s. — which might explain why the Strib is so far silent — allegations of a party-enabled 11th-hour dirty trick could rebound against Democrats.
Coleman's campaign announced a press conference yesterday afternoon, then canceled, but another is scheduled for today. Stay tuned.
