There's a priceless bit of video going around journalism circles today: a 1981 San Francisco TV report on newspapers being delivered to home computers.
More than most old clips, it's a fascinating piece of history: only 3,000 San Franciscans had home computers then. It took two hours to receive all a paper's text over the phone — at $5 per hour.
MinnPost colleague John Reinan alerted me to the elusive local angle — about 50 seconds in, you'll see one of the eight papers Compuserve offered is our own Minneapolis Star Tribune. So don't ever say the Strib was late to the Internet!
If anyone out there had anything to do with the Strib's project — or better yet, paid to get it — leave a comment below or email me at the address to the right.
