I'll admit this is not fully nailed down, but it looks like ex-KFAN host and current "Monday Night Football" crew member Michele Tafoya will be named WCCO-AM's noon-3 p.m. host next week.

Station sources say Tafoya's hiring is done but not announced; WCCO program director Wendy Paulson will only say that the new host will indeed be named the week of April 20. In the meantime, ex-KSTP anchor Randy Meier is filling in.

Tafoya, like many other luminaries, tried out over the past couple of months for the job Jack Rice was jettisoned from in January. Although she did not return a call left with her agent, Tafoya was quoted last October saying she'd like to travel less and "might do more radio." At the time, the Strib's Judd Zulgad noted the 45-year-old Tafoya and husband Mark Vandersall were about to adopt a second child.

Tafoya — a.k.a. "Limo" to longtime KFAN listeners — worked for WCCO Senior V.P. Mick Anselmo at The Fan, and for WCCO-TV in the mid-'90s. Though I didn't hear her tryout, I remember her as a friendly, smart, non-edgy personality. If this comes to pass, Tafoya and 9 a.m.-noon host Susie Jones would give AM830 six straight hours of female talkers, which remains a rarity at local stations outside of FM107.

I'm told (but again, unconfirmed) that one sticking point in negotiations was how Tafoya's schedule would mesh with "Monday Night" duties. Perhaps she'll work four days a week during the season, or maybe she's leaving that ESPN gig. We'll find out in a few days.
