Knocking down a blog report I passed on this morning, a Gannett Co. spokeswoman says there will be no second-quarter furloughs in the company's U.S. Community Papers division, which includes the St. Cloud Times. The Gannettoid report, quoting an unnamed company senior vice-president, had said furloughs would be limited to staffers making more than $90,000. However, James Romenesko's Poynter Online blog posted the company's denial late this afternoon, and Jim Hopkins' Gannett blog has posted a purported company memo here.
If this all shakes out thusly, the newspaper division's pay freeze and furloughs will end April 1, which is good news for all employees.
