With KSTP-AM swiping ESPN Radio shows earlier this year, the owners of KFAN-AM decided to donate their lightly listened-to second station, AM690 "The Score" to a minority broadcasting group.

According to the Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal, Clear Channel Communications flipped KFXN-AM to the Minority Media and Telecommunications Council.

The station is only on-air from sunrise to sunset. At best, "The Score" only racked up three-tenths of 1 percent of the listening audience in the past year, and since ESPN1500's debut, has earned a 0.1. AM690 had been an overflow for ESPN's nationally syndicated programming, as well as shows from other syndicators. The switch — which won't occur before Jan. 1, and possibly months thereafter — means you'll have to find your Dan Patrick and Jim Rome fixes elsewhere.

(Update: The Star Tribune's Neal Justin notes Dan Patrick is rebroadcast on 1500 ESPN. Clear Channel's Gregg Swedberg says the shift was in the work before 1500's format change.)

The Twin Cities is not devoid of minority stations; in the most recent ratings, KMOJ-FM, aimed at the African-American community, produced a 0.7 percent share of listeners 6 or older between 6 a.m. and midnight. Hispanic stations La Invasora and Radio Rey earned a 0.7 and 0.4, respectively. As far as I know, there's no local station dedicated to Twin Cities Asians, though KFAI-FM (0.2 share) includes several Asian-community shows (and East African ones) on Sundays.
