Best Buy to begin offering 'twelp' to Twitter users

Next time you tweet for advice on buying a new TV or digital camera, you might get a reply from a member of Best Buy's "Twelpforce."

Bloomberg reports that the social-network-savvy retailer will start trying to drum up sales in 140 characters or less later this month by connecting with potential customers on the micro-blogging service Twitter.

Best Buy's chief marketing officer explains to the newswire:

"The old paradigm is you open your doors and hope someone comes in. In the new world, you can go out and find people that are talking about technology and what they’re interested in buying, and be generous with your knowledge. And hopefully if you’re generous and knowledgeable, people will come and buy.”

More than 500 Best Buy store employees have signed up to participate in the program, which will launch on July 19.
