Caribou Coffee investors: "Watch your lap," warns the Motley Fool. The financial website says Starbucks' recent struggles have made some investors too optimistic about other coffee stocks, including Caribou. Shares of the Brooklyn Center-based chain are up recently, but the company's "historical lack of profitability" is reason for pause, the website says. "[W]hen it comes to hot coffee plays for investors' portfolios, I think Caribou could be the most likely culprit for investors to get burned."
With all the buzz lately about Best Buy opening stores around the globe, it's a little hard to believe it's just getting around to opening a Mall of America location. The store opens to the public at 6 p.m. today with grand-opening activities all weekend. Magic Johnson takes part in a ribbon-cutting Friday, followed by a performance by New Kids on the Block. On Saturday, Minnesota Twins center fielder Carlos Gomez and legend Harmon Killebrew will sign autographs and pose for photos.
Best Buy stayed put at No. 3 on a list of the top U.S. music sellers for the past six months, but Target slipped a spot to Amazon.com. The research, compiled by NPG Group, concludes that compact disc sales are "seeing less erosion" online than they are in brick-and-mortar stores. The No. 1 music retailer is iTunes, followed by Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Amazon and then Target. The formula counts 12 single song downloads as equivalent to a physical album.
Juhl Wind's executives appear to be the media darlings of Woodstock, Minn. The company was once again spotlighted on Fox Business in a segment about wind power. "It's the cleanest, most competitive form of power," said CEO John Mitola. "We can compete head to head with coal. We're much cheaper to install than nuclear power." You can watch the video below:
We lost our Krispy Kremes, but is Dunkin' Donuts on the horizon in the Twin Cities? The Massechussetts doughnut chain put out a call for franchise owners today in the Twin Cities. The company hopes to roll out 100 stores here in the next several years.
