Now that Best Buy announced it will start selling iPhones, will investors line up for the retailer's stock like geeks outside an Apple store? Wall Street analysts said the deal should help Best Buys outperform its rivals during what's expected to be a slower-than-usual holiday season, Associated Press reports. But Kevin Maney at Portfolio mag wonders whether the Best Buy deal is the beginning of the end of the iPhone's cool factor.
Is Circuit City making a comeback against Best Buy? The blog at Internet traffic site Compete says that in July, for the first time since October 2002, Circuit City's website drew more traffic than Best Buy's website. However, another statistic suggests those visiting the site might just be comparison shopping before buying elsewhere. Despite the rise in traffic, the percentage of people who buy something on Circuit City's site is falling. Best Buy's rate is increasing.

A Medtronic device has become the first automated external defibrillator in space. The defibrillator was placed by NASA aboard the International Space Station to be used in case any crew member experiences cardiac arrest in space. Medtronic said NASA evaluated 18 defibrillators before choosing its LIFEPAK 1000, made by a subsidiary in Redmond, Wash.
