Here's something scores of local business school graduates probably already know: Target, General Mills and Travelers are among the best places in the country to launch a career, according to a new ranking by BusinessWeek magazine. The magazine notes Target's aggressive entry-level hiring efforts, General Mills' finance leadership development program and Travelers' generous first-year performance bonuses.
Airfares aren't taking off everywhere, the Associated Press headline reads. But they sure are in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. The Twin Cities have seen one of the sharpest increases in the cost of flying this year -- up 17 percent from a year ago. Philadelphia fares rose 26 percent. Newark went up 15 percent, and Dallas saw a 12 percent rise. One travel adviser says there are still cheap options. Example: MSP-Newark fares are $1,600, but for some reason MSP-JKF costs only $300.
Hot air masses helped lift Internet Broadcasting's traffic to record levels in August. The St. Paul firm manages web content for local TV stations around the country. The number of unique visitors to its network's sites grew 8.8 percent in August. Internet Broadcasting attributes the gain to strong interest in hurricanes and political conventions that month.
