Scotch tape has X-ray powers; also: Best Buy gets exclusive Guns N' Roses, Northwest-Southwest prices wars are on, and Target settles suit

By Dan Haugen | Published Thu, Oct 23 2008 9:55 am

Scotch tape has X-ray powers! UCLA physicists have figured out that the 3M invention gives off X-rays when peeled inside a vacuum chamber, the Associated Press reports. The discovery might one day be harnessed for making inexpensive X-ray machines for paramedics to use in places where electricity isn't available. So is the stuff safe to keep in your desk drawer? Yup. No X-rays are emitted in the presence of air.

I bet they're pumping their fists in Richfield over this one: Best Buy has scored an exclusive deal to sell the much anticipated/mocked Guns N' Roses release "Chinese Democracy." It's the band's first album of new material since 1991. Best Buy's exclusive deal follows a similar pact between Wal-Mart and AC/DC.

The price war is on at MSP. Northwest Airlines officials say they'll match Southwest fares when the low-cost carrier comes to town next year. That's good news for passengers, at least in the short term. Then the question becomes: Will Southwest have the stamina and commitment to compete at MSP for the long haul?

Target has agreed to pay $1.7 million to settle a lawsuit alleging it overcharged customers in California. The San Francisco Chronicle reports that the lawsuit accused the company of using electronic cash register scanners that repeatedly charged customers more than the advertised price for items. The company didn't admit guilt but agreed to improve pricing procedures.
