The owner of some of Europe's largest tourist attractions has purchased Underwater Adventures Aquarium at the Mall of America, according to a press release.
Senior executives of London-based Merlin Entertainments are expected at an 11:15 a.m. news conference today at the megamall.
Minnesota native Todd Peterson purchased the troubled aquarium in 1999 and turned it into a profitable business.
Merlin also owns the Madame Tussauds, Sea Life and Legoland parks. It's Europe's largest amusement park operator, and second worldwide only to Disney.
More details on the deal are expected at the news conference.
