Macy's to close 11 stores, including Brookdale location

By Dan Haugen | Published Thu, Jan 8 2009 9:15 am

    More bad news for Brookdale.

Macy's announced this morning that it is closing 11 underperforming stores, including its Brookdale location.

“These closings are part of our normal-course process to prune underperforming locations each year in order to maintain a healthy portfolio of stores,” Macy's CEO Terry Lundgren said in the company's statement.

Macy's employs 72 people at the Brookdale store. The release says "associates in good standing may be considered" for open positions at other stores.

The Brookdale Center department store opened in 1966. (It was Dayton's back then, and later Marshall Field's, before becoming Macy's.)

Final clearance sales will begin within the next week.
