General Mills recalling peanut-butter-flavored snacks in connection with salmonella scare

By Dan Haugen | Published Mon, Jan 19 2009 10:56 am

General Mills is recalling 15,000 cases of snack bars in response to a nationwide salmonella outbreak that could be responsible for six deaths.

No illnesses have been reported in connection with the LARABAR Peanut Butter Cookie flavor snack bars and the JamFrakas Peanut Butter Blisscup flavor snack bars.

But the peanut butter used in both products is linked to Peanut Corp. of America, one of the companies the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is investigating.

The LARABAR snack bars include the UPC numbers: 54818-00014-7, 54818-00064-2, 93759-00298-8, 93759-00299-5, and 54818-00085-7.

The JamFrakas UPC numbers are:93759-00212-4, 93759-00213-1, and 93759-00214-8.

The snack bars are sold primarily as individual bars at grocery and specialty stores. Consumers who have the products are urged to dispose of them and contact General Mills for a refund at 1-800-543-2147 or its website.
