    3M manager held hostage, released to boos from workers

    A 3M manager who was being held hostage by French workers has been released, the Associated Press reports.

    The manager, Luc Rousselet, was locked into an office Tuesday by employees at a 3M factory in Pithiviers, France. The workers were protesting planned layoffs and demanding better severance packages.

    Rousselet was unharmed during the nonviolent stand-off, according to news media reports.

    The incident is the latest expression of public outrage over layoffs in Europe, the Wall Street Journal reports. 3M has announced plans to layoff between 110 and 235 workers at the French facility.

    The Wall Street Journal writes that the manager left his office early this morning to boos from about 20 workers.
