    Medtronic touting drug-coated stent, recalling catheter

    A few announcements from Medtronic in recent days:

    The medical device maker says it's received regulatory approval to launch its Endeavor drug-eluting coronary stent in Japan. In a separate press release, Medtronic is touting new clinical study results that show the Endeavor stent is both safe and effective. Meanwhile, the company is recalling a brain catheter used to treat hydrocephalus.

    In other medical device news, Boston Scientific said Friday that two recently launched implantable defribrillators might be faulty, the Star Tribune reports. The devices, Cognis and Teligen, can deliver unneeded shocks or fail to shock the heart when needed, the newspaper reports.
