    3M investors see slimmer gift bags, no free lunch

    Investors planning to attend next month's annual 3M shareholder meeting, don't forget to pack a lunch.

    Reuters reports that the company is cutting back on swag and sandwiches at the May 12 event in a largely symbolic cost-cutting move.

    Analysts tell the news service that gift bags arriving with their annual reports are noticably slimmer than years past. The cuts will save several hundred thousand dollars.

    The manufacturer recently offered early retirement packages to 3,600 employees, about 11 percent of its U.S. workforce.
