Working Mother magazine has named General Mills one of the Best Companies for Multicultural Women.
"Keeping employees happy is a top priority for this food manufacturing firm," the magazine writes. Among the company's accomplishments: hiring a career coach to help Hispanic women navigate the workplace, launching five multicultural employee networks and creating a corporate database to help diverse employees seek each other out.
“This honor reflects the importance General Mills places on creating an inclusive workplace,” Ken Charles, VP of diversity and inclusion for General Mills, said in the company's statement.
Multicultural women make up 9 percent of the company's new hires, and of the women of color who are in senior management, 42 percent of them were promoted last year, according to the magazine.
The Star Tribune reported last week on some of the initiatives that help General Mills repeatedly rank high on these type of employee-friendly workplace surveys.
