Travelers VP Andy Bessette talks with Forbes about sponsoring a high-profile golf tournament in an age when financial companies are increasingly being scrutinized for spending on sports sponsorships.
The Travelers Championship takes place next week in Cromwell, Ct.
"This is all about our brand -- exposure for our brand. The more you see the red umbrella, the better," Bessette tells Forbes' SportsMoney program.
It'll be harder to miss this year. The company will be launching a 40-foot floating red umbrella into a pond between the 15th and 17th holes. The sponsorship will also have a greater web presence this year, with an online golf game and live video from select holes.
