Best Buy's Chief Marketing Officer Barry Judge broke some news on his blog this morning about the company rolling out the sale of used video games at several Texas stores.
The system sounds considerably more high-tech and automated than your average strip-mall video-game store. Customers can insert their used games into a kiosk, which automatically scans the disc to make sure it works, and then immediately issues a gift card voucher.
"It's a pretty slick system and one of the few trade-in programs to provide instant gratification; you get the gift card on the spot and can redeem it on anything in the store -- not just another game," Judge writes.
Some of the kiosks will be used to test out video game and movie rental, too. The responses on Judge's blog were overwhelmingly positive.
