    UnitedHealth to cover H1N1 flu vaccines

    It's a sad comment on the state of our system when a health insurer's vow to cover H1N1 flu vaccines is considered news, isn't it?

    UnitedHealth Group announced Thursday afternoon that it's going to cover the administration of H1N1 flu vaccines for all its members, regardless of whether their health plan covers immunizations.

    “In light of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s guidance, we felt it was important to remove barriers to ensuring the widest possible administration of the vaccine,” UnitedHealth medical affair chief Reed Tuckson said in the company's statement.

    Not everyone should line up just yet, though. The CDC is prioritizing the vaccine for pregnant women, caregivers for young children, health care and EMS workers, and people ages 6 months to 24 years.
