    Best Buy to sell GPS child-tracking device

    Best Buy is about to release a GPS child-tracking device via its in-house Insignia brand.

    The NaviGadget blog discovered the Insignia Little Buddy product page on BestBuy.com. The product goes on sale today and costs $100, according to the page. It doesn't say whether there is an additional fee for web services related to the product.

    "Keep tabs on your child at all times with this small but sophisticated device that combines GPS and cellular technology to provide you with real-time location updates. The small and lightweight Little Buddy transmitter fits easily into a backpack, lunchbox or other receptacle, making it easy for your child to carry so you can check his or her location at any time using a smartphone or computer."

    Parents will be able to program the devices to send a text message if it leaves a designated area, such as a school.
