Anonymous donors give up to $1.25M to Twin Cities Salvation Army: Three anonymous donors are promising up to $1.25 million to help boost the Twin Cities Salvation Army’s donation drive. The donors have promised to give three times whatever is donated to the charity on Tuesday and Wednesday. Annette Bauer, a spokeswoman for the organization, said the Salvation Army has never had such a large matching donation. Read full story
Twin Cities medical societies to combine: The Twin Cities’ two medical societies will merge at the end of the year. The East Metro Medical Society and the West Metro Medical Society will combine to become the Twin Cities Medical Society. The two professional organizations said the merger would benefit from economies of scale and shared resources. Read full story
MoneyGram International trying out mobile phone-based money transfers in Philippines: MoneyGram International is trying out a program in the Philippines that would allow people to receive money transfers over their mobile phones. St. Louis Park-based MoneyGram today launched a pilot program at select agent locations in San Diego and Hong Kong. Read full story
“A Prairie Home Companion” show to be broadcast in theaters: A live performance of the public radio show “A Prairie Home Companion” will be broadcast in movie theaters across the country early next year. The show, which will originate from the program’s home base at St. Paul’s Fitzgerald Theater, will be shown live and in high definition at 490 movie theaters Feb. 4. Read full story
IATA says international travel posts modest October gains: International air travel improved in October, if only slightly, led by gains in economy class, according to a Monday report by the International Air Transport Association. It said today that Monday international travel was up a modest 0.2 percent over last October, led by a 1.3 percent uptick in economy class. Read full story
