Microsoft opening MOA retail store: Microsoft Corp.is opening a retail store at the Mall of America. The Redmond, Wash.-based company has expanded its retail presence in recent months, opening stores in Arizona, California and Colorado. A mall spokesperson confirmed the store opening, but said he couldn't provide further details because of confidentiality agreements. Read full story
Federal suit filed over ADC sale: A federal lawsuit challenging the $1.25 billion sale of ADC Telecommunications to Tyco Electronics has been filed. The suit was filed against Eden Prairie-based ADC, its board of directors and Tyco Electronics by Iowa shareholder E. Joyce Emmons. It seeks class action certification for shareholders. The suit said $12.75 per share is an "unjust and grossly inadequate price," and that ADC stock was depressed by the recession but "poised to capitalize on its positive and encouraging financial outlook." Xcel Q2 profits rise on rate hikes and weather: Rate hikes in Colorado and "favorable weather" boosted Xcel Energy’s profits in the second quarter, the utility company said Thursday. Minneapolis-based Xcel reported second-quarter earnings of $140 million, or 30 cents per share, up from $117 million, or 25 cents per share, during the same period a year ago. Read full story
Medtronic to study device for treating heart failure: Medtronic is launching a clinical trial for a device that could treat heart-failure patients by stimulating their spines, the company announced Thursday. The device, dubbed PrimeADVANCED, delivers electrical pulses to the spine, stimulating the nervous system. Read full story
