State Fair caption contest #3: Square dancing horses

Courtesy of the Minnesota Historical Society

As the State Fair comes to a close, so too does the State Fair photo caption contest. Like the elephant jumping, this gem comes from 1960, and shows four happy couples in their cowboy hats, neckerchiefs and billowing bows square dancing... on horses.

Minnesota was still a bit puritanical during this period and square dancing on horseback was derived from the need to allow young people to dance without actually touching one another. The horses were also kept one foot apart using a ruler the dance caller kept on his person at all times.

So, what are they really doing? Or thinking? I've got a few captions. Please add yours in the comments section.

"When are we going to start square dancing with cars, like them fancy New York types?"

"How crop circles were made in the Old West."

"Does this count as first base?"
