WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Blue dog Democrat Rep. Collin Peterson joined Minnesota’s Republicans again today in voting against the $410 billion "omnibus" spending bill that passed the House largely along partisan lines.  

Among many other things, the bill would designate over $28 million for specific programs in northeastern Minnesota, $713,625 for the Center for Renewable Energy at Minnesota State University, Mankato, $290,000 for Crop Disease Research at the University of Minnesota, and $20 million for the Central Corridor Light Rail Transit Project, according to projections from Democratic Reps. Jim Oberstar, Tim Walz and Betty McCollum.

All the delegation’s Democrats, expect Peterson, voted for the bill. Peterson could not immediately be reached for comment.

“This legislation makes important investments that are important to Minnesota,” Oberstar said in a statement.  “We are investing in waste water treatment plants, purchasing better equipment for first responders and providing guidance and education for children.”

All of Minnesota’s Congressional Republicans voted against the legislation.

GOP Rep. Michele Bachmann said in a statement that the “Democrat majority is once again using a massive spending bill to shove sweeping national policy changes through Congress without public scrutiny and without proper debate.”

The final vote was 245 to 178 with 16 Republicans voting for the measure and 20 Democrats voting against it.
