    This time, it's Al Franken's turn to get some help from his friends

    WASHINGTON, D.C. - Minnesota Sen. Al Franken is getting by with a little help from his friends — at least when it comes to paying his outstanding legal bills — according to newly filed Federal Election Commission documents.

    Minnesota Public Radio reported this week that the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee paid $500,000 on July 16 to lawyers who represented Franken in his long battle with Republican Norm Coleman.

    The assistance, however, was neither unexpected nor unusual.

    In May, the National Republican Senatorial Committee paid Coleman’s team $938,000. The newest report shows an additional $8,640 went toward expenses related to the recount and court contest, according to MPR.
