    Bachmann applauds IRS action on ACORN

    WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Rep. Michele Bachmann, applauded the IRS’ decision yesterday to cut ties with the controversial anti-poverty group ACORN.

    The decision follows Senate and House passage of legislation that would either limit or cut off federal funding to the group.

    The Internal Revenue Service said it would no longer include ACORN in a tax-assistance program that offered free tax advice to about 3 million low- to moderate-income filers this year.

    “I applaud the IRS for dropping ACORN from participation in the volunteer tax assistance program,” said Bachmann, who has been a vocal critic of the group.  “ACORN has proven time and time again that it is either unable or unwilling to ensure that it operates with high ethical standards. The IRS’ action yesterday is one step in the right direction...”
