Bachmann calls for protest gathering on health care

By Cynthia Dizikes | Published Mon, Nov 2 2009 8:15 am

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., is calling on Americans to come to Washington, D.C., on Thursday to protest health care reform.

“This is our liberty and tyranny moment. This is it,” Bachmann said during an appearance on Fox’s “Hannity” program Friday. “This is about patriotism and manning up. And if we can get Americans literally by the busload to come to Washington, D.C., next week... [w]e’ll stop this.”

Bachmann, along with other Republicans, will be holding a “town hall” outside the Capitol Thursday to protest the health-care reform legislation, which House Democrats are expected to bring to the floor for a vote by the end of this week.

“The American people need to stand up again and make sure that Congress hears them this time,” Bachmann said in a statement, which attempted to invoke the momentum that Republicans gained in town hall meetings this August.  “Speaker [Nancy] Pelosi is putting her bill on fast track to a vote — and it remains to be seen if the House will even get a chance to vote on the commonsense Republican alternatives.  The people need to make a House Call on Washington this week and tell their Representatives to vote no to a government take-over of one-fifth of our economy.  This is gangster government at its worst.”
