It’s radio inside baseball, but former KDWB/KTLK operations director Rob Morris will take over JACK-FM and the new Buz’N 102.9 country station, CBS Minnesota announced Monday.
Morris was considered integral to KDWB’s rise to the top of the Twin Cities ratings heap, but the pop rocker has fallen as low as fourth since this summer, and he and owner Clear Channel couldn’t come to contract terms.
In swooped CBS Minnesota market manager Mick Anselmo, a former Clear Channel exec who just flipped WLTE into a country competitor for his former employer’s K102. Morris is known as a relentlessly competitive programmer, and for Anselmo, going into the country fight with a former colleague was too good an opportunity to resist.
For its part, JACK-FM has been relatively flat for two years — between 4 and 5 percent of all Twin Cities listeners, while attracting between 5 and 6.5 percent of 25-54-year-olds since March.
The CBS Minnesota cluster also includes WCCO-AM.
Morris will begin his job July 2, 2012, after he wraps up a six-month consulting gig at Orlando’s WJHM, another CBS station.
