    Minnesota leads nation in speeding stimulus spending on water quality

    WASHINGTON, D.C. — More than 96 percent of stimulus funds allocated for water quality projects in Minnesota are invested in projects that have already broken ground. It's the best such rate in the nation, and double the national average of 48 percent.

    The Clean Water State Revolving Fund money is intended for water quality projects, including wastewater treatment, watershed and estuary management and nonpoint source pollution control.

    The data (PDF) were compiled by the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, which is headed by Rep. Jim Oberstar. In a note (PDF) to Gov. Tim Pawlenty, Oberstar called Minnesota's stimulus spending on wastewater treatment a "model for other States around the nation."
