Minnesota Election Protection Team reporting 200-plus requests for help

By Marisa Helms | Published Tue, Nov 4 2008 12:44 pm

The Minnesota Election Protection Team is reporting it has received more than 200 requests for assistance so far today.

The Election Protection Team, an offshoot of a national program, is sponsored locally by a coalition that includes Common Cause, the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits and TakeAction Minnesota.

Team spokesman Mike Dean says the volunteers have been taking calls and are ready to mobilize if needed.

“The majority of problems seen today have been honest mistakes by undertrained poll workers and overwhelmed election officials,” says Dean. “But they nevertheless threaten Minnesota voters’ right to fair elections and the integrity of the entire system.”

The team hot line is: 1-866-OUR-VOTE (1-866-687-8683).
