The latest news on upcoming candidate appearances in the metro area

Hillary Rodham Clinton's Minnesota campaign has announced that she will make an appearance in the Twin Cities on Sunday. The exact time and place will be announced soon.

This comes on top of the official announcement that Mitt Romney will be here Saturday. He is scheduled to meet the press at 5 p.m. when his plane touches down and plans to hold a rally at 7:30 p.m. at the Frauenshuh Inc., 7700 France Ave., Edina.

Barack Obama will hold a rally at the Target Center Saturday afternoon.

Oberstar to endorse Obama

The Barack Obama for president campaign has scheduled a conference call for later this morning to announce two new congressional endorsements, including one from a Minnesota congressman.

The campaign hasn't announced the specific identity yet, but MinnPost has learned that U.S. Rep. Jim Oberstar will join the Obama team.

Two other Minnesota House Dems, Keith Ellison and Betty McCollum have also endorsed Obama. Oberstar previously had endorsed John Edwards, who dropped out of the race earlier this week. The rest of the delegation has not publicly declared for a presidential candidate.

Of course, Team Obama hopes the Oberstar endorsement will boost their side heading into Tuesday's caucuses, but if the nomination goes all the way to the Democratic National Convention, the support of congressmen and senators takes on added importance, since all of them are unpledged delegates.

Former Vice President Walter Mondale, who also has a superdelegate spot reserved for him in the "distinguished party leader" category, is supporting Hillary Clinton.
